Police: Man likely drowned in Lake Monroe

Bedford resident was tubing Tuesday without life vest

Divers began searching a section of Lake Monroe late Tuesday afternoon for the body of Tim Browning, 21, of Bedford. Police say Browning had been tubing without a life vest. \nThe emergency call came in about 3:30 p.m. said Conservation Officers Spokeswoman Angie Goldman. Browning fell off his tube and when his friends turned the boat around the man was gone. \nAccording to Indiana regulation: IC 14-15-2-6(b) "each person on and all persons being towed behind a (power water craft) on skis or any other device must wear a USCG (United States Coast Guard)-approved (Personal Flotation Device)."\nThe Monroe County Dive Team searched until 10 p.m. Tuesday and resumed searching at 7 a.m. Wednesday. As of press time the search party had not found the body. \nOn Tuesday there were as many as five divers in the water at once with five different boats patrolling the area. The area the team is searching is about 500 feet offshore, approximately 2,000 feet west of the Fairfax Beach boat ramp. \nThe Associated Press contributed to this report.
