I wanted to show my support for Lindsay Kerrigan's column, "I pledge Allegiance," in the June 13 edition of the IDS. \nIt's clear that the main stream media is, and has been, crumbling at the foundation because of its practices within the United States. I believe the main issue that the media faces is that reporters and workers of the media hide behind a false shroud of objectivity when we all know who is on what side. I believe if all these media outlets simply came to terms with their public about their personal interests then we could all stop kidding ourselves that the mainstream media has our (meaning the United States) interests in mind. \nInstead we are plagued with CBS airing stories about false military documents and, despite these documents being proved to be false, some media sources still think the documents are true. We have a problem in the media these days that they instead want certain stories to be true so badly that they will go to whatever lengths possible to make it so. They do so by ignoring the truth and making up their own facts. The American public sees it in famous publications as the New York Times and The Boston Globe where news isn't news but more of an editorial of news. Despite all the mistakes made, we still see unchanging behavior. Even today we see publications of Abu Ghraib being compared to a torture camp. They ignore the facts that the terrorists are well-fed and are allowed to pursue their religion using materials bought and paid for by American tax payers. Oh, and once in a while we pour water on their heads to torture them. Still, the media accuses the United States of acts against humanity and report stories that we are responsible for death and suffering, all while asking you to buy the products being advertised. \nWhen the mainstream media stops pretending we're all dumb out here, when they stop going to any means necessary to push their own political agenda, when they start sticking up for this country who has given them the right to say awful things about it, when they start putting the interests of their viewers ahead of their own, then will be the time that the media will gain back the public trust.
Media must gain trust from general public
