In the May 12 column by Mr. Glenesk titled "To the remaining, b-ware" I was horrified to read about one student's vision of the "townies". Being a "townie" myself, having graduated from a Bloomington high school and middle school, but also being a full-time IUB student, I see his opinion as misguided and wrong. \nI must admit that there are those mullet-wearing, snuff-chewing folk around Monroe County. Heck, I live next to most of them, but not all of Bloomington and the surrounding populace is like that. I find the Bloomington populace to be very open and diverse and not at all like the column says. I think Mr. Glenesk needs to open up his eyes and move on from his southern Indiana stereotypes and see the Bloomington people for who they are: wonderful, intelligent people who are very patient with the students that overrun their town for nine to 10 months out of the year. If it was meant to be funny, it wasn't.
Column wasn't funny
