Junior pitcher no-hits Purple Aces in 5-0 win

3 homers help IU end 10-game losing streak at Evansville

After 10 straight losses, the IU women's softball team needed a boost and got it out of junior pitcher Mariangee Bogado in a no-hit shutout win against Evansville 5-0 Tuesday night.\nThe no-hitter was the first for Bogado in her college career. On the night, she struck out eight in seven innings of work.\nThe Hoosiers combined Bogado's game with a solid offensive showing in their last non-conference game of the season.\nIU (13-35) started the game hot as sophomore catcher Tory Yamaguchi hit her ninth home run of the season, a solo shot over the left field wall in the first inning, to give IU a 1-0 lead on Evansville (14-29).\nThe Hoosier bats stayed hot when freshman outfielder Rachel Carlson singled to lead off the fourth inning. After Yamaguchi laid down a sacrifice bunt advancing Carlson to second, junior outfielder Lauren Hines homered over the left field wall pushing the lead to 3-0.\nA sixth-inning two-run home run by sophomore infielder Rachel Terry -- the Hoosiers' third home run of the game -- sealed the win for IU.\nBogado's no hitter wasn't as certain. In the seventh after allowing a walk to start the inning, Bogado proved her mettle by striking out two Purple Aces to finish off the no-hitter.\nThe Hoosiers will continue Big Ten play when they head to Columbus, Ohio, for a two-game series against Ohio State Friday and Saturday. IU will finish the weekend with a double-header at Penn State.
