From the band that made a name for itself over 10 years ago with the hit, "Here in Your Bedroom," comes an album that sounds not unlike all its other releases. Disconnection Notice has some catchy pop-punk tunes and a few tracks with ska-induced rhythm, but the music certainly isn't a new expedition for Goldfinger. \nThis album may not break any new ground, but it proves that a pop-punk/ska band with tight beats, melodious vocals and an overproduced sound can hang around for as long as it keeps making new albums. Goldfinger will never reach the likes of blink-182, but I would imagine the band is fine with this. Goldfinger can still crank out fun music, put on energetic live shows around the country and will always have a loyal fan base. It also doesn't hurt that the band's success has allowed frontman John Feldmann to own his own record label, Mojo (Reel Big Fish anyone?). \nWhile the first half of the album is stereotypical pop-punk at its best (or worst), Goldfinger explores somewhat new territory in the latter half of the album. Of course, the band dabbles in its trademark ska-punk on tracks like "Behind the Mask," but on other tracks there is some experimentation with synthesizers ("Faith") and acoustic guitars ("Damaged" and "Iron Fist").\nMany of the lyrics deviate from the typical songs of teenage love ("My Everything," though it was the catchiest tune) and getting drunk ("Wasted") in the album's first half. "Behind the Mask" speaks about animal rights and begins with a powerful monologue spoken by a British woman and follows the recent trend of punk rock bands criticizing our government. The album's final track, "Stalker," is a humorous story about a girl who won't leave Feldmann alone, and he seems to be cool with it. \nWhile the album offers nothing new, Goldfinger seems to be dimly hinting at new directions. For true fans it's a must-have, otherwise wait until it hits the audio/visual department of the library.
