IU's No. 29 ranked women's tennis team lost two matches in North Carolina this weekend to No.8 Duke University and No. 15 University of North Carolina.\nJunior Sarah Batty and sophomore Laura McGaffigan were the only two victorious Hoosiers in Saturday's match at Duke's Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center as IU, now 2-2 this season, lost all of the doubles matches and four of the six singles matches.\nDespite losing the 5-2 decision to Duke, IU coach Lin Loring said that he was still pleased with how his team played.\n"We were very much in two of the doubles matches," said Loring "(And in the singles) we were very much in (matches) one, two, four and five."\nBoth Batty and McGaffigan bested their singles opponents in tie-breakers, with McGaffigan upsetting her nationally-ranked opponent, 6-7, 6-4, 1-0.\nIn the one spot, Senior Dora Vastag, who is ranked No. 91 in the country, was defeated (6-2, 6-3) by No. 115-ranked Katie Blaszak in a match that Loring would call much closer than the score indicated.\nOn Sunday, the Hoosiers lost to North Carolina 6-1 in North Carolina's Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. North Carolina won the doubles points by winning two of the three matches. UNC then took five of the six singles points.\nMcGaffigan was responsible for the Hoosier's only point with her singles win. She is now 4-0 in singles play this season.\nVastag and sophomore Cecile Perton were victorious in their doubles match in the three spot. They were the only other two Hoosiers victorious.\nVastag would later retire in the second set of her singles match due to injury.\n-- Contact Staff Writer Andy Romey at aromey@indiana.edu.
