Get it together, Athletics
It's time for the University to decide what it wants to do with the football program. We will now pay the buyout clause of our second consecutive coach. All told, over the last several years it would have probably been cheaper to hire a coach with real talent and pay him $500,000 a year (about double what Cameron and DiNardo got). The choice is clear: spend now on coaches, scholarships and other "perks" or scale the program down dramatically. Clearer still is the proven fact that trying to be economical is not the way to produce a winning and profitable football team.

Chicago is no Fallujah
I hope IDS readers recognize that Katie Vinson is as small-minded as her letter "Thank You, values voters of America" (Nov. 30), in which she made several ignorant and factually incorrect statements. First, she grouped Chicago and Fallujah in the same category. As a value-less Chicagoan, I take offense to that. I can't recall the last time I found myself caught in urban warfare on Michigan Avenue, but because Chicago is like Fallujah, it must have happened. I also did not know Chicago was controlled by rebel forces, unless Ms. Vinson means the Democrats. Also, I doubt that "Hitler would still be in power today" even without our foundation of personal responsibility simply because he would be 115 years old and very much dead. So Ms. Vinson, while it important to not forget ones values, it is equally important to not forget the facts either.
