Local man arrested for sexual assault\nGary Cushinberry, owner of the World's Fare store on South Walnut Street, was arrested Thursday on the charge of sexual assault, a felony, and being a habitual offender. According to a story in The Herald-Times, Cushinberry lured a 23-year old girl into the Siam House restaurant, which was closed for the evening and is also owned by Cushinberry's wife, with the promise of the girl's friend being inside. \nThe intoxicated girl met Cushinberry at the Upstairs Pub earlier in the evening. Cushinberry was released from the Monroe County Jail on a $25,000 surety bond.\nThis is not Cushinberry's first brush with the law. Since 1985, Cushinberry has been arrested at least 17 times on charges ranging from burglary and theft to domestic battery and rape, according to jail records. \nDuring the mid-1990s, Cushinberry served a year and a half in the state prison system on a felony residential entry conviction.
Medical manufacturer to bring 100 jobs to Fort Wayne in expansion\nFORT WAYNE -- A Fort Wayne company that makes wire for medical devices is planning a $14 million expansion that will create about 100 jobs over the next five years, company officials said.\nFort Wayne Metals Research Products Corp. said the expansion is needed to support its growing biomedical customer base.\nThe company, founded in 1970, manufactures wire and rod for use in catheters, guide wires, orthopedic devices, orthodontic appliances and other devices.\n"In order to best serve our clients, we have elected to undertake significant growth," Bob Myers, the company's executive vice president, said in a statement.\nThe average wage for new hires will be about $12 to $18 an hour, depending on the position and skills, according to a statement from the Fort Wayne-Allen County Economic Alliance.\nFort Wayne Metals Research currently employs about 285 people in four Fort Wayne plants and about 22 in a plant in Ireland.\nTotal employment is expected to reach about 400 by the end of 2008, the company said.\nThe planned expansion is the latest of several for the company, which recently invested in manufacturing and information technology equipment and purchased the former MTI building in Fort Wayne.
