It appears Jay-Z's retirement was even shorter than expected. Too bad his latest move to take the helm of Def Jam Records, a collection of poor, outtake-ridden songs written and performed with R. Kelly, hits the ground like a lead balloon.\nUnfinished Business, a sort of follow-up to the two's last and far better collaboration, Best of Both Worlds, comes off as more of a worst of both worlds. The normally masterful Jay-Z sounds almost bored to be at these sessions, and R. Kelly's already middling R&B manages to become even more banal and uninspired with each beat. Listening to this album unfold, I got the sense that Jay-Z was just in a rush to get home to Beyonce, and R. Kelly was in a hurry to hit up Video Memories and get his latest home video transferred to DVD.\nBusiness can be utilized as a fine party album, but the fact that most of these tracks only sound good while drunk and dancing doesn't bode well for the hooks and beats. If nothing else, consult your iTunes account for mp3s of "Return" and "Big Chips," the only worthwhile tracks on the album.\nAfter the last track, which happens to be a warmed over remix of the first track, one will most likely wish that Jay-Z and R. Kelly had left this business unfinished.
