Would the writer have said the same thing had she interviewed a gay man, and said it wasn't weird for him to live with six straight people? Or a black man and said it wasn't weird to live with six white people?\nThat clause, stuck haphazardly into the middle of an overlong sentence, could have been an interesting paragraph or two, but as it is, it's embarrassing and tacky.
