Happy Thanksgiving!

The staff of the IDS wishes its readers a happy and safe break

We took a consensus, and the Indiana Daily Student staff would like IU's students, faculty and staff and the Bloomington community to have a happy Thanksgiving. Each and every writer, photographer, designer and editor wants you -- yes, you -- to have a nice Turkey Day. Well, most of us want you to have a nice one; there was one grumpy kid who muttered something about the real Thanksgiving story. But the rest of us told that kid to pipe down. \nSince Thanksgiving is the official beginning of the holiday season, we're going to give our Thanksgiving wishes Christmas list-style.\n1. We want you to eat good food. Whether it's traditional American Thanksgiving Day fare, some other ethnically traditional food, a vegetarian tofurkey or McDonald's, we want you to use this date to appreciate good food and your ability to have it. And when you're done, we'd like you to donate your leftovers to a local soup kitchen. \n2. We want you to be thankful. Whether it's for your health, your friends, your family or the fact that you're lucky enough to be reading one of the top student newspapers in the country, Thanksgiving Day is the perfect time to reflect on your good fortunes. With finals looming and winter hovering closer and closer every day, it's easy to forget that life can still be pretty good. Take a little time to think about it. \n3. We want you to think about volunteering. Everyone volunteers on Thanksgiving Day, but think about postponing your good intentions until the day after Thanksgiving when everyone else is shopping. Come Friday, the soup kitchens still need help. If you can't volunteer that week, think about giving some time later. While we do want you to be thankful (see Thanksgiving Wish No. 2), we also want you to remember that there are those who are still working on making their lives better.\n4. We want you to be safe as you travel. With the mass exodus Tuesday, we're hoping for a safe trip to your destinations and back to IU.
