Big Weekend for the women's swim and dive\nThe No. 17 IU women's swimming and diving team is gearing up for a tough weekend as it plays host to Big Ten rival Northwestern, Kentucky and Southwest Missouri State University. \nThe Hoosiers are coming off a tough loss Saturday against Arizona State University -- losing by a narrow margin of 156.5-142.5. IU will take on the Northwestern Wildcats at 3 p.m. today, then swim Kentucky and SMS at 1 p.m. Saturday. Both meets will be held at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center at the SRSC. \nThe last time the Hoosiers met Northwestern was in a dual meet Nov. 8, 2003 in Evanston, Ill. The Hoosiers downed the Wildcats that day with a final meet score of 182-116. Look also for an extra heated day of competition as IU coach Dorsey Tierney takes on her brother Jimmy Tierney, who is the head coach of the Wildcats. \nCome Saturday, the Hoosiers hope not to lose pace and gain a victory against the Kentucky Wildcats and SMS Bears. IU faced Kentucky in 2003, overpowering the Wildcats 139-96. Kentucky is coming off a hard fought loss to the University of Tennessee, 123-129, and looking to get back on the winning track against IU. \nThe SMS Bears are coming off a victory heading into Bloomington as they defeated Western Illinois and Lindenwood last Saturday.

Men's swim and dive rolling along\nAfter a Texas sweep last weekend, the No. 13 IU men's swimming and diving team comes home to Bloomington with a busy schedule. The Hoosiers will face off today against Big Ten rival No. 15 Northwestern at Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center. \nThe Wildcats are coming off a week's rest after their swimmers participated in the NU Relays Oct. 24. They finished third in their competition despite accounting for many even titles. The NU divers were in Chicago competing at the UIC Diving Invitational. \nThe IU men's swimming and diving team is on quite a roll itself.\nThe Hoosiers moved their dual meet record to 3-1 after a sweep in two meets in Texas during Halloween weekend. After impressive performances by senior Marc Carlton and freshman Todd Patrick last weekend, another Hoosier garnered a top achievement. Freshman Ben Hesen received www.collegeswimming.com National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week recognition for his exploits in the recent wins. \nAlong with a tough Northwestern team, the Hoosiers get to test their grit against two tough schools Saturday. The No. 20 Kentucky Wildcats come to Bloomington along with the unranked SMS Bears. Last week, Kentucky lost a very close meet to No. 10-ranked Tennessee, another powerhouse facing IU next semester. The Bears, however, swept their meets last week and have brought their momentum to Bloomington.

Volleyball battles Wolverines, Spartans in doubleheader \nThe IU women's volleyball team will play host to a doubleheader in Bloomington this weekend after being swept in a two-game Halloween road trip.\nThe Hoosiers hope to rebound Friday against Michigan and Saturday against Michigan State after falling 3-0 to both Penn State and Ohio State last week.\nIU has an 8-15 overall record with a 2-10 mark in conference play.\nThe Michigan Wolverines bring a 15-8 record (5-7 Big Ten) to Bloomington and have lost their last three matches.\nMichigan State is 9-11 overall and 4-8 in the Big Ten conference. The Spartans are coming off a big 3-1 win against Illinois last Friday.\nEarlier in October, the Hoosiers visited both teams in the Great Lake State but were unable to come away with a victory, losing 3-0 to the Spartans and 3-2 to the Wolverines.\nThe match against Michigan will be at 7 p.m. Friday and the Michigan State match is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday. \nPurdue and Illinois will also visit University Gym later next week in what is the Hoosiers' longest homestand of the season.\nAll matches are played at University Gym, on the corner of the 45/46 bypass and 10th Street.
