Should have 'saved' some special features

If a zealous acquaintance has ever condemned your actions, you might find sweet redemption in watching "Saved!" The story focuses on Mary (Jena Malone) who attends a Christian high school and who quickly becomes an ex-member of the Christian Jewels, which is "sort of a girl gang for Jesus" headed by Hilary Faye (a convincing Mandy Moore). \nIt all begins the summer before her senior year when Mary's boyfriend reveals to her that he might be gay. After a near-drowning accident and a vision from Jesus, she realizes she has to do everything she can to straighten him out. This leads to her having sex, which leads to her pregnancy, which leads to the possibility of her getting sent to Mercy House, the same Christian treatment center that is assisting the "de-gayification" of her former boyfriend. \nThe movie has a deliciously-unique plot, and although it starts out as a dark comedy, becomes increasingly moral as the story progresses. This movie should be particularly hilarious to anyone who has ever attended church camp; a lot of the "saving" tactics engaged might look familiar. \nUnlike the movie itself, the special features include bloopers which weren't funny, deleted scenes that weren't entertaining and I had my hopes up for the commentary by Moore and Malone, but it was boring too. The DVD doesn't add anything spectacular to the movie (OK, the DVD doesn't add anything), but at least you can bring it home and watch it with your "heathen" friends. This way you won't feel like you're going to go to hell every time you laugh.
