Finally, a film that lives up to everything scary movies are known for, and then some. The second installment of the Japanese series created by Takashi Shimizu, "The Grudge" in itself is a completely disconnected story from "The Ring;" however, if you liked one, you'll more than likely enjoy the other. The story surrounds an eerie Japanese home and a deadly curse that consumes all who enter it (think "The Ring," but instead of a cursed videotape, the killer is a haunted house). \nThe cast, led by vampire slayer Sarah Michelle Gellar, is for the most part unknown, but is highlighted with cameos by Bill Pullman, Clea DuVall and Jason Behr. These characters and many more do a great job of dying at the hands of two frightening ghosts, in the scariest ways imaginable. From the seemingly random opening scene, to the disturbing final frames, this flick will have you sitting in your date's lap, guaranteed.\nNow, when it comes to scary movies, I consider myself very hard to please. It takes a lot to scare most college students and adults, but somehow this PG-13 film was able to get me and the rest of the 13 and over audience to scream at least once during its tense, 96-minute run. On the flip side, most of the screams were due to creepy music and "Boo!"-type scare tactics and not genuinely thought-provoking material. In other words, every time you find a character alone, be ready for that creepy little girl you've seen in the previews to pop out of nowhere and follow through on her "grudge" against those who dare to inhabit her home.\nOverall, this horror film will fulfill the high hopes of those people who liked "The Ring" and other supernatural tales of homicide that have been produced in the last few years. With its simple plot line and series of twists and turns, "The Grudge" will keep every movie-goer on the tip of his or her toes until the climactic ending. \nMy advice for those who plan to see this Halloween time horror: Bring a pacemaker and a dry pair of pants; you're more than likely either going to have a heart attack or wet yourself over this frightening tale of pissed-off ghosts and ghouls.
