Livin' it up, Libertarian style\nAs usual, this election, I'm glad to be neither a Republican nor a Democrat. If you believe that the faster U.S. soldiers hightail it out of Iraq, the better, for whom can you vote? Bush would continue his war, in its various, horrible forms. Kerry would send more troops to Iraq and perpetuate war as insidiously as Bush. Nader would internationalize it. The only presidential candidate I agree with is Michael Badnarik, the Libertarian. Badnarik would "bring the troops home as quickly and safely as possible, from Iraq and other nations, to protect our own borders." \nIf all readers of this letter who wish to vote against all war, against war profiteering and against foreign interventionism would throw up our hands and vote for Badnarik, the same person would probably still win the election. But importantly, we would sow seeds so our children can enjoy a safer planet, where more people of all nations are free. A large vote percentage for Badnarik would show the growth of the genuine peace movement, beyond partisanship. We would all be proud, years down the line, that we said, "No more blood on our hands," and stood on principle in the 2004 election. For more info, visit www.badnarik.org or www.lp.org.

'Crusade' about zeal, not hate\nI am writing in response to David Weisburd's letter on Campus Crusade for Christ (Oct. 12th). David was "alarmed" enough about the group to write a lengthy letter concerning their name, while admitting that he doesn't "know very much about this organization." He recalls that his English teacher said, "Words matter." I would add that the definition and contexts of words matter. A look in any dictionary would show that 'crusade' includes the meaning, "Any enterprise undertaken with zeal and enthusiasm." One would presumably not be offended by "crusading for civil rights." Beyond the name, the organization is simply a friendly group of students that are sincere and enthusiastic about the truth claims of Christ and seek to offer that to the campus discourse.
