Frustrated Hoosiers ready for Butler

Bulldogs pose last threat of regular season for IU

The IU women's soccer team is angry and ready for redemption.\nAfter a series of frustrating ties and losses, the Hoosiers are ready to change the tide when they play host to Butler University at 7 p.m. tonight at Bill Armstrong Stadium.\n"This squad is ticked off at the world right now. They're frustrated because their record doesn't reflect how good they are," said IU coach Mick Lyon. "So we're trying to channel that into an aggression against the next two opponents -- the next two we know we definitely have."\nTonight's game will mark the last time the Hoosiers will take Yeagley Field this year and is their last regular season game as well. \nAccording to junior goalkeeper Lauren Fabbro, IU has the stronger team, but the effort has to be there to get the much needed win.\n"A team like Butler always comes out and gives us a good game," Fabbro said. "I think overall we have better players and more talent, so if we use that to our advantage and high pressure and just make sure we go out there with an all-out effort, we'll pull off the win."\nButler currently has a 7-8-2 record, and 4-3 run in the Horizon League. The Bulldogs have scored 24 goals this season. Eleven different Butler players have scored at least one goal, but leading the way is sophomore forward Kristin Harnest with six goals.\nButler has allowed 16 goals this season using an arsenal of three goalkeepers, consisting of freshman Annalise Larkin, sophomore Megan Cappa and senior Katie Sanders for a combined .910 goals against average and an .818 saves percentage. \nButler will make the 50-mile drive south to Bloomington, providing the Hoosiers with their second game in a week versus an in-state rival. The Hoosiers lost to Purdue 1-0 last Friday. \nFriday's game will mark the 12th time IU has faced Butler, ranking as the most fixtures versus any non-conference opponent. The series stands at 5-5-1, with the Hoosiers compiling a 3-2 record in Bloomington.\n"We always want to beat those other teams from Indiana to show that we're the top team," junior midfielder Kristen Zmijewski said.\nLyon said this may be the first time in a while his team will be playing at full fitness. Lyon said players have had problems with the flu as well as injury, but are now good to go.\nThe Hoosiers are not taking this non-conference game lightly. IU has its sights set on the postseason and knows this game will set the tone for the Big Ten tournament.\n"This game is important for us for a number of reasons," Fabbro said, "but, most importantly, is that we have had quite a few ties and losses, and games that we didn't play our best. So it's really important for us to step it up a notch and prove we're ready to play Penn State in the first round of the Big Ten tournament."\n-- Contact staff writer John Fischer at jbfische@indiana.edu.
