Cyclist injured in accident with pedestrian

An ambulance was summoned early Monday evening when a student on a bicycle struck a second student on foot outside of Woodburn Hall. \nSenior Hannelore Meier was riding her bike down Forrest Avenue when freshman Joel Dinin stepped off the curb in Meier's way, causing her to strike him, throwing herself off the bike, according to eyewitness accounts.\nAt the scene, Meier was conscious and moving. \nShe was bleeding from the head, and suffered a large knot on her forehead. \nScrapes and bruises on her face were the only other visible injuries. \nSurrounding students huddled around Meier, and one student held her hand as she lay on the pavement waiting for response officials to arrive.\nDinin said she first asked about him and his welfare and then about how her bike was.\nDinin said at one point Meier was using sign language to communicate more effectively. \nShe gave a thumbs up to rescue workers as they moved her from the street to a stretcher.\nMeier was not wearing a helmet when the incident occurred. \nIU police officer Brian Oliger, who was on the scene, said an incident report would be filed instead of an accident report.\nIUPD Lt. Jerry Minger said an accident report is filed if a car is involved, such as a car hitting a pedestrian.\nOliger was unsure of Meier's condition, and said tests would have to be run to determine if there were any head injuries.\n-- Contact staff writer Ashley Lough at amlough@indiana.edu.
