Kirkwood Observatory again open Wednesdays\nIU's Kirkwood Observatory telescope is again open to the public every Wednesday night for anyone interested in surveying the nighttime skies in detail. The 12-inch telescope is just east of the intersection of Fourth Street and Indiana Avenue. \nWhat is viewable in the nighttime sky depends on the season, but usually includes brighter planets, star clusters and the moon. The open house is canceled in the event of a mostly or completely cloudy sky. \nThe hours are 8 to 10 p.m. April 14, and 9 to 11 p.m. April 21 through May 26. \nFor more information about viewing the sky through the observatory's telescope, contact the department of astronomy at 855-6911 or astdept@indiana.edu.
La Casa to hold fiesta for BLCC\nLa Casa is sponsoring three events benefitting the Bloomington Latino Community Center. Thursday and April 13. La Casa will hold fiestas with authentic Latin food and fundraising events. The cost for each is $5. Thursday's event begins at 6 p.m. and the event April 13 begins at 7 p.m.\nThe benefit will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. April 15 at the Mathers Museum of World Cultures. BPC announces logo contest\nThe Bloomington Professional Council is holding a contest to determine its next logo. The organization, which advocates on behalf of professional-level staff on campus, will award $100 to the winning entry. The BPC Professional Interests Committee will judge the entries. \n"We are seeking a new logo to help staff identify our organization, and to aid in publicizing our programs," committee chair Isabel Piedmont said in a statement.\nThe format for entries should be a TIF file and it must be legible in a size as small as one inch square. The logo must include the BPC's full name and its Web site. \nContestants should submit their designs to iubpc@indiana.edu by 5 p.m. April 16.
