The IU Police Department is investigating a suspicious phone call a student received regarding a bogus internship interview at the Main Library. A man claiming to be recruiting for an internship called freshman Carrie Brock and asked if she had a job or a internship for the summer, IUPD Lt. Jerry Minger said.\nAt that point, Minger said the caller told Brock he didn't have time to explain the internship possibility and wished to set up a meeting time at a secluded place in the library. Minger said Brock went to the library and didn't immediately see anyone and became suspicious. When Brock checked the caller's name and information on the Internet, she didn't find anything, which made her even more suspicious, Minger said.\nMinger said the incident could have been a completely innocent misunderstanding, but that he isn't writing off the possibility of something more suspicious.\n"It's a suspicious inciden; it's kind of unexplained," Minger said. "It could be very explainable. The person wouldn't have to be connected with the University to solicit for a work study program. It could very well turn out to be legitimate all the way around. There's no way to validate the story on the amount of information we have now. In the absence of that, we can only determine that it's suspicious."\nMinger said the secluded meeting place was one of the stacks floors on the research side of the library. He said that doesn't signify any malicious intent, and it may even signify otherwise. \n"I suspect one person might say that's secluded and one might say that's where he might study all the time and that's where he wanted to meet," Minger said. "A lot of these things could be easily explained away. If you're actually trying to do something dangerous to a person, I'm not sure the library stacks would be a place of choice. If I was a predator of some type, I might try to lure them to a real secluded place. At this point, it is suspicious, yes. To say there is some type of illegal intent, we have nothing to substantiate that"
