Interim library director named

Associate Director Cass Owens was appointed interim director of the Monroe County Public Library at a special meeting held by the library's board of trustees Wednesday, after the resignation of former director David Ivey. \n"Right now is a time to pause and evaluate, to make sure that people understand, and then to proceed," Owens said in a statement. "I hope that people will look at the library's Strategic Plan and see what good things it contains for our service to the county. With some initiatives, it would be disruptive to stop the progress achieved." \nOwens said in other initiatives, the library will need to slow down. \n"It's the Board's plan, and the Board will want to give a new director the chance to review and participate in planning."\nOwens brings unique experience to her role as the interim director. Her career began as a reference librarian at DePauw University, then served as a children's librarian in a public library. While serving on the Monroe County Public Library team, she has held the positions of interlibrary loan librarian, reference librarian, head of reference, and as associate director since 1991. \nThe library board of trustees has appointed a committee to seek proposals from search firms for recruiting a new permanent director. A deadline has not been set for the appointment.
