The cheesy, yet heartwarming Honey has all the makings of an after-school special. A little far-fetched, it recycles familiar themes: kid has hard life on the street but gets turned around, girl becomes a star overnight but struggles to keep herself grounded.\nThe story stars a young woman living in the Bronx trying to fulfill her dreams against all odds. Honey Daniels (Jessica Alba) has been working at a record store and bar, but her passion is hip-hop dancing. She hones her choreography skills with a class she teaches at the community center. \nShowcasing her moves on the dance floor at a local bar lands her an audition with a big music video company. Five minutes later, she is choreographing videos for some of the hottest stars in hip-hop music including Tweet and Jadakiss & Sheek. Mini-appearances by Missy Elliott add a bit of comic relief.\nIf the movie is approached with an open mind and a blind eye to the occasional overdramatization, the underlying moral flavor of the movie grows on the viewer. Honey may not be the next Academy Award-winning Best Picture, but the audience will certainly walk away with a few new dance moves and a smile on its face.
