IU researchers find more than 2,100 millionaires \nIU researchers who examined tax records found more than 2,100 millionaires across the state, with the greatest concentration in the Indianapolis area.\nIU's Indiana Business Research Center and Kelley School of Business released findings Monday from the study and a report which found Indiana is more dependent on property and individual income taxes than other states.\nOut of 2.9 million individual tax returns filed in 2001 with the state Department of Revenue, 2,126 people had adjusted gross income of more than $1 million, said Jerry Conover, the research center's director.\nThe number of people reporting more than $500,000 in income was 6,936.\nThe largest number of $1 million returns -- 387 -- were filed by residents of Marion County, the state's most populous.\nOther counties with more than 100 incomes topping $1 million were Hamilton, Allen and St. Joseph. Lake County had 98 millionaires.\nMore than 30 percent of all Indiana returns reported income of $10,000 or less, while 22.8 percent had income of more than $50,000 in 2001.\nAnother article the IBRC is publishing in a bimonthly publication called INContext found more than 80 percent of state revenue comes from within the state.\nMorton Marcus, the center's former director, reviewed 2000 data from the Census Bureau and the Rockefeller Institute and found that Indiana derived 82.6 percent of its state and local government revenues from its own sources and 17.4 percent from the federal government.\nLecture to discuss political Islam\nThe IU Ottoman and Modern Turkish Chair is sponsoring a lecture on "Zones of Political Islam," at 9 p.m. tonight in Woodburn Hall, Room 120.
