Union Board presents poetry slam

The Union Board invites all students interested in expression their opinions creatively to participate in a poetry slam followed by an open mic night at 8:30 p.m. tonight at the IMU Marketplace.\nParticipants in the poetry slam have free reign over the subject matter and style of their poetry, however it must be their own work. In addition, participants are not allowed to supplement their acts with props. It is standard rule in a poetry slam that no performance should last longer than three minutes. Three judges will be selected from the audience and vote participants on an Olympic point scale. \n"I love Poetry Slams. I think they are the best way for a poet or artist to express their feelings, beliefs, values, and thoughts to an audience. If you think poetry is boring, you know nothing about Poetry Slams," said Ronnie Houchin, director of the Fine and Performing Arts committee at the Union Board. "They're not sonnets by any means ... they're dynamic, exciting, and fun." \nNo fee is required to participate.
