Gunman arrested after taking a man hostage\nINDIANAPOLIS -- A gunman who evaded police in a car chase Sunday broke into a suburban home, took a man hostage and fired at police before being arrested, authorities said.\nThe only injury was to a Marion County sheriff's deputy, who was bruised when he was hit by a ricocheting bullet.\nAuthorities gave this account:\nAn officer in Brownsburg, a Hendricks County town west of Indianapolis, tried to stop a van because of an expired license plate, leading to a chase that crossed into Marion County and a residential area on Indianapolis' west side.\nThe van crashed into a fence, and the driver fled on foot. The man kicked in the door of a house where several young girls were inside after an overnight sleepover.\nAuthorities said the man drew a .357 magnum handgun and took family members hostage. Homeowner Frank Detzel persuaded the gunman to let his wife and five girls go. The gunman then led Detzel into the garage, apparently hoping to drive away in one of the family's vehicles.
