As the Indiana gubernatorial campaign gains momentum, one group of students is getting involved in the political process. \nIU Students for Mitch Daniels announced its founding this week and had its first call-out meeting Wednesday night. The group was created by students to aid efforts to elect GOP candidate Mitch Daniels in 2004.\nJesse Laffen, executive director of communications for the group, said Daniels appeals to students because of his knowledge of working with budgetary matters. Daniels previously served as director of the Office of Management and Budget under President George W. Bush.\n"He has a proven track record for responsibility that we need right now," Jaffen said. \nLaffen said the state budget should be a concern of college students because it can affect funding for higher education.\nDaniels said the upcoming election will be important for college students across the state.\n"The change we are out to bring to Indiana is aimed at making our state once again a place that can provide a great career and quality of life for any young person who wishes to be here," Daniels said in a statement. "I expect many of these young leaders to become part of the new crew we intend to bring to a reformed, revitalized state government."\nFor more information on the group, contact chairman Angel Rivera at 219-8927.
