Sticman and M-1, better known as Dead Prez, don't shy away from the issues they face daily: oppression, racism, problems with the police and problems within their community. They have successfully conveyed a number of these messages in Get Free or Die Trying.\nThis mixtape is a compilation of short tracks Dead Prez has developed with the help of various artists until they can find a label to release their actual new album Revolutionary but Gangsta. \nAlthough Get Free is filled with positive lyrics and good beats, you can't help but feel that it is incomplete due to the lack of longer tracks. Their style, however, remains as political as it has been. \nSticman openly discusses his brother's drug problem in "Window to My Soul," one of the many meaningful tracks. More than anything, though, they're about bringing knowledge. They bring various historical figures into their lyrics and include a song called "O.G." for Marcus Garvey. \nDead Prez doesn't just complain; they explain the problems they personally face and have faced and the problems African-Americans face in general. For listeners looking for something to play at a party, this isn't the album, but for those liking to listen to good hip hop with something to say and a story, this album works.
