Tickets go on sale today for comedian Jerry Seinfeld's first visit to the Bloomington campus.\nHis stop is part of a nationwide comedy tour in celebration of the release of "Comedian," a documentary on the trials and triumphs of returning to the live stage after his nearly 10 years on the set of NBC's Seinfeld. \nThe official Homecoming event sponsored by the IU Auditorium, IU Alumni Association and IU Foundation will take place at 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 11, at the IU Auditorium.\n"This is the first time Seinfeld has appeared at the IU Auditorium, and we think it is a great way to cap off Homecoming evening after a great football game against Northwestern earlier in the day," said IU Auditorium Director Doug Booher.\n"Mr. Seinfeld will be performing about 80 minutes of his now famous stand-up. From the other venues who have had the show already, I have heard very positive feedback, so our guests should come to the Auditorium ready to laugh," Booher said.\nSeinfeld served as namesake and executive producer of the sitcom that had a nine-season,180-episode stint from 1989 to 1998 detailing the complicatedly uncomplicated lives of four self-involved New Yorkers. The comedic antics of "the show about nothing," along with Seinfeld's humor, are the enticing factors for student and local fans like senior Clayton Haldeman.\n"I have always watched his show and I think he is very funny," Haldeman said. "The intricately woven plot always added an extra bit of funniness to each show. His comedy is original and witty."\nAccording to Ken Beckley, president and CEO of the IU Alumni Association, the decision to bring the award-winning comedian, actor, writer and producer to campus was based on the high caliber of his material.\n"We at the IUAA feel Seinfeld is one of the top comedians in the U.S., if not the premier one," Beckley said. "We know he will deliver a high-quality, very entertaining program for alumni, students and the University family."\nTicket sales start at 10 a.m. and are available online at www.iuauditorium.com, the IU Auditorium Box Office and all Ticketmaster locations. Booher said tickets range from $47 to $77 for the general public, and a special student discount of $5 is available in select seating. \n"This show is most exciting to us at the Auditorium because it appeals to all age groups and will certainly be an opportunity for IU students, fans, alumni and friends to join together and celebrate Homecoming," Booher said.\n-- Contact Assistant Opinion editor Jackie Corgan at jcorgan@indiana.edu.
