IU stumbles in first road test

IU men's soccer tasted defeat for the first time this season, as they lost to Connecticut at the UConn Classic this weekend. Georgetown also gave No. 5 IU (1-1-2) problems in Storrs, Conn. The Hoosiers tied the Hoyas, 2-2 Friday and fell to the host Huskies, 2-1 Saturday at Morrone Stadium. \nIU was unable to hold a 2-0 lead against Georgetown, as the Hoyas battled back to force the draw. \nCoach Jerry Yeagley said the team's inexperience showed against Georgetown. \n"It's certainly a disappointing result," said Yeagley, who remains 17 victories shy of the All-time wins record. "I think we deserved to win, but we missed on too many golden opportunities. To give up two goals in four minutes is unacceptable. We had some reserves in and made two mistakes, failure to clear. We should have had that game won with a two-goal lead."\nThe Hoosiers wasted no time to record a goal in the match. Junior forward Ned Grabavoy tallied a goal a little over four minutes into the first half. The skilled forward knocked the ball from the right side to the bottom left corner to earn his second goal of the season. \nIU netted its second goal against the Hoyas off the foot of sophomore midfielder Brian Plotkin in the 66th minute. \nAfter that goal, IU had a comfortable 2-0 advantage, but the Hoosier defense surrendered two goals in the final four minutes. They gave up their first goal of the season in the 86th minute. \nMeanwhile, IU lost to UConn, 2-1, the same team that ousted the Hoosiers in the third round of the NCAA Tournament last year, also in Storrs, Conn. \nIn this match, IU took the lead in the 36th minute on sophomore midfielder Pat Yates' first goal of the season.\nOnly two minutes later, the Huskies answered.\nUConn scored the game-winner by junior midfielder Andres Rota in the 63rd minute, who beat junior goalkeeper Jay Nolly to the lower right corner. \nYeagley said the team needs to find a source of offense and thinks the UConn game was a valuable learning experience. \n"It could have gone either way, but we just couldn't come up with the score," Yeagley said in a statement. "I definitely thought we moved the ball and played well in spots. We matured as a team in this game, and hopefully it will help us at the end of the season. Right now, we need to find a way to win"
