Field hockey extends winning streak to 4\nBefore the Hoosiers left for Muncie, Ind., last weekend senior goalie Molly Pulkrabek had one thing to say about the Ball State Cardinals: "I want to beat them!" \nPulkrabek held up her end of the bargain as she shutout Ball State in the IU women's field hockey's 2-0 win. However the Hoosiers didn't leave Muncie with one shutout victory, but two, as the Hoosiers cruised to another win as they shutout Southwest Missouri State on Saturday with a dominating 4-0 victory. \nCoach Amy Robertson was very happy with her team's performance.\n"Today's win was a huge milestone for the program," Robertson said. "This was the best played game so far this year. Ball State is a great program, so it wasn't just a win, but a win over a great team."\nThe Hoosiers got on the board in the first half as freshman Lydia Schrott scored her first goal of the season with 13:34 seconds remaining in the first half. In the 2nd half a more familiar face found the back of the net as junior Kayla Bashore scored her fourth goal of the season to put the Hoosiers up 2-0. \nFormer Ball State field hockey player and current IU assistant coach Gina Lucido was also very happy with the way the team played against her alma mater.\n"The win today was not just a win over an in-state rival, it was a monumental win for the Indiana field hockey program," Lucido said. "It's great to win games on the road against competitive teams."\nThe Hoosiers were also able to get some revenge on Saturday with a 4-0 win. The Hoosiers lost two years ago to Southwest Missouri State. \nIn the game on Saturday the Hoosiers got on the board early as sophomore Nikki Orciuch scored the first goal of the game in the first minute. Fifteen minutes later, the Hoosiers got their second goal from Schrott. Later in the first half, sophomore Lesley Wiler scored her second goal of the year to make it 3-0. Bashore scored the final goal for the Hoosiers in their 4-0 win.\nBashore's last goal was her fifth on the season, tying her for the team record held by senior Erica Nilsson. The Hoosiers will now have two weeks off before their next game Sept. 19th against Willliam and Mary.
IU women's soccer splits weekend\nThe IU women's soccer team continued their long road trip, traveling to St. Louis this weekend to take on Army and St. Louis University in the Toys For Tots/Military Academies Women's Soccer Classic. After dropping a tough game to St. Louis University Friday night, the Hoosiers came back Sunday to earn their first victory of the season over Army.\nFreshman defender Megan Pipkens scored the only goal of the game while senior goalkeeper Shaunna Daugherty shut out Army to bring the Hoosiers record to 1-3-0 on the season.\nThe Hoosiers offense helped win the game by constantly applying pressure to the Army defense. The offensive charge was lead by junior midfielder Kim Grodek who had five shots on goal. The entire offense totaled 20 shots, 10 of which were on goal.\nThe defense stepped up its play as well, only allowing the Black Knights three shots on goal the entire game.\nPipkens' goal came 72:52 into the game and was assisted by senior midfielder Emily Hotz. Hotz blew past her defender and passed the ball to Pipkens, who was able to easily put the ball in the back of the net.\nFriday night IU fell 1-0 to St. Louis after giving up a late goal. That was IU's third straight 1-0 loss.\nThe Hoosiers next game is Friday, Sept. 12th against Butler. The game is being held in Lawrence Park in Indianapolis.
