Eve 6 gets stuck, but not in your head

Well, the boys of Eve 6 are back with another one. It's All In Your Head is its fourth release and the group still hasn't broken out of its comfort zone. I'll be the first to admit it, I have a soft spot for these guys. Eve 6 is a fairly good band, its songs are catchy, and a rock band that doesn't conform to the new scene is always refreshing. Yet, its sound has not evolved at all. If one were to play all of its CDs in succession, they would not be able to tell one from the other. Eve 6 is in a rut.\nMax Collins is a great frontman and weaves his choruses energetically, but come on -- "I'll always be here for you...I'm alone for the first time...It's time to let you go..." We've heard these whiny generic lyrics before -- give us some poetry. The strongest song on the new album is "Hey Montana," which slows the pace down a little bit and ditches the incessant rock guitar. It's a beautiful song that showcases Collins' strong emotional voice. Throwing some strings on tracks like "Girlfriend" adds a little spice, but it's not enough. \nThe band needs to quit being so cheesy, grow up a little bit and try to cover some new ground. I love the originality of the Eve 6 concept, and I do enjoy listening to its CDs, but this one is definitely not the best.
