Pilots urge TSA to speed up training

Pilots urge TSA to speed up training\nWASHINGTON -- The government says its training program to arm commercial airline pilots is now at full capacity and it expects to train all qualified pilots who volunteer to carry guns within a year. Pilots disagree, saying the Transportation Security Administration is discouraging them from signing up by requiring background and psychological checks, ordering pilots to carry guns in lockboxes and holding the training at a single remote site.\nThe pilots held news conferences Tuesday at several airports around the country to urge the TSA to speed up the program. \nIslamic center fire labeled as arson\nSAVANNAH, Georgia -- A weekend blaze that destroyed the Islamic Center of Savannah was the result of arson, fire investigators said. FBI agents are investigating the fire as a civil rights violation, said Special Agent Steve Crum.\nNo one was injured in the blaze early Sunday but a rare, handwritten copy of the Quran was destroyed. Evidence of possible accelerants and other clues point to arson, Assistant Fire Chief Stephen Miller said.\nProtesters call for attorney general's immediate resignation\nMONTGOMERY, Alabama -- Protesters hoping to keep a Ten Commandments monument in the state judicial building marched on Attorney General Bill Pryor's office Tuesday, demanding he resign for abiding by a federal court order for the marker's removal.\nAbout 150 monument supporters marched from the judicial building to the nearby Statehouse to meet with Pryor, but were met by 10 state police blocking the door. \nProtesters hoped to keep the monument in place at least until today, when a hearing is set for the last-ditch lawsuit they filed seeking a temporary restraining order. The lawsuit, filed Monday in federal court in Mobile on behalf of a Christian radio talk show host and a pastor, says forced removal would violate the constitutional guarantee of freedom of religion.
