Indy 500 winner's grandson crashes\nINDIANAPOLIS -- A.J. Foyt IV escaped injury when he crashed his car Thursday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He was cleared to continue practicing for the Indianapolis 500.\nFoyt, a rookie driving for his grandfather, a four-time Indy champion, spun coming out of the fourth turn and brushed the wall. The car spun back around as it skidded down the track and hit the outside wall a second time, damaging the rear end.\nThe elder Foyt said a cut left rear tire caused the 19-year-old driver to lose control.\nThe crash was the second since practice began this week for the race May 25.\nOn Tuesday, Shigeaki Hattori sustained a concussion and a broken little finger on his left hand. Hattori had surgery on the finger Wednesday and was released from the hospital Thursday.\nHe has not been cleared by the speedway's doctors to get back in his car.\nTornadoes halt Royals' games\nKANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Reports of tornadoes headed toward Kansas City forced postponement of Thursday night's game between the Baltimore Orioles and the Royals.\nIt had been raining at Kauffman Stadium off and on for about an hour before the game was postponed shortly after 8 p.m. EDT. But more worrisome were reports of tornadoes aloft and on the ground about 50 miles West of metropolitan Kansas City, which was pummeled Sunday by a series of tornadoes that left one person dead and caused millions of dollars in damage.\nThe Kansas City area was under a tornado watch since mid-afternoon and only a few hundred people were in the stadium when the game was called.\nRoyals first baseman Mike Sweeney said the players had no problem with the decision.\n"We don't want our fans to be in jeopardy or our players," he said.\nPitching troubles White Sox in loss\nOAKLAND, Calif. -- White Sox pitcher Jon Garland (2-3) continues to struggle against the Oakland Athletics. One week ago, Garland allowed four earned runs in five innings of action and his woes on the mound continued by allowing 8 runs in five innings pitched. \nMiguel Tejada had a three-run homer among his three hits, and John Halama pitched into the seventh inning as the Oakland Athletics beat the Chicago White Sox 8-5 Thursday.\nEric Chavez also homered, and Ramon Hernandez and Erubiel Durazo had RBI doubles.Tejada scored three runs and reached base four times.\nHe singled in the first, then doubled and scored in the fourth. In the fifth, he homered off a pitch from Garland. Halama (2-2) allowed two runs and seven hits.
