IU physics department administrative assistant Jordan Tillett is recovering from a skull fracture in Bloomington Hospital today.\nTillett was struck by a car Tuesday afternoon at Fourth Street and Indiana Avenue. \nThe vehicle involved in the accident was a 2001 Subaru Impreza, driven by 22-year-old IU student John Correa. \nA report by the Bloomington Police Department stated that Correa was driving on the west side of Fourth Street and Indiana Avenue prior to the accident. He waited for traffic to clear on the south side of the intersection. As Correa turned left on Indiana Avenue, he said he heard his passenger yell his name. By then, Tillett had been struck, according to the report.\nThree eye-witnesses recounted the accident to officer Amy Myers, who arrived at the scene around 12:30 p.m. to find Tillett suffering from minor bleeding.\nAccording to the police reports, witnesses one and two said Tillett was crossing Indiana Avenue from east to west. They stated the vehicle was already turning and heading northbound when Tillett was struck.\nWitness three was sitting on the stone wall located outside of the law school when Tillett was hit. She stated she heard the car brake prior to the impact.\nAs of Wednesday, the report said Correa would not be charged. The case is closed, and the investigation is complete.\nCorrea could not be reached for comment Wednesday evening.\nIU physics department payroll transaction clerk Sam Wall said Tillett is a popular staff member on the IU campus. The physics department was informed of Tillett's accident by faculty and staff members from other IU departments who recognized her.\nWall visited Tillett with a bouquet of flowers at Bloomington Hospital Wednesday morning to see how she was progressing. Wall said Tillett has been conscious and able to converse.\n"She looked remarkably good for the circumstances," Wall said. "She was in very good spirits considering all she had been through."\nIU physics department's purchasing coordinator Susan Brown works with Tillet in the main office of Swain West 117.\n"We miss her very much," she said.\nBrown said neurosurgeons performed a second CAT scan on Tillett Wednesday morning and were pleased with her progress. The CAT scan found slight bruising on her brain.\n"Her condition is good, but guarded," she said. "It's remarkable that the skull fracture is her only injury."\nTillett will remain in the hospital for another five to seven days, Brown said. It is not known when she will be able to return to work.
