The IU men's golf team finished the Big Red Classic in Ocala, Fla., tied for 6th place. The second day was canceled because of rain and the final standings are those of the first round. \nThe squad shot a 295-287 for a total of 582, six-over-par, in its first tournament of the spring season.\nKent State won the shortened tournament with a 561, 15-under-par. Austin Peay, Miami (Ohio) and Xavier finished with scores of 570, 571 and 573 respectively. UNC-Greensboro placed fifth with a 576. \nCo-host Ball State finished 12th, shooting a 592.\nWith one-third of the final 18 holes left on Sunday, event officials called the golfers off the course because of thunderstorms in the area. \nThe scores recorded were from the first 36 holes on Saturday, while the last 18 holes from Sunday were not counted -- unfortunately for the Hoosiers.\n"We were really coming on strong today," coach Mike Mayer said. "Without a doubt, we were the hottest team out on the course. It was just unfortunate that we didn't get to finish. It would have been nice to see the low number we brought in."\nSophomore Heath Peters was the highest placing Hoosier, tying for ninth place. Peters shot one-under-par 143. Senior captain Ben Davidson carded a 146, two-over-par which was good enough to be tied for 22nd, while sophomore Jeff Overton ended tied for 30th with a 147, three-over-par. Freshmen Scott Seibert and Brad Marek ended fourth and sixth for the Hoosiers with scores of 150, six-over-par and 151, seven-over-par respectively. \nSenior Aldo Jordan finished tied with Seibert with a 150, six-over-par score.\nSince the scoring format was six-count-four, only Peters, Davidson, Overton and Seibert's scores were recorded. \nDuring Sunday's rain-shortened round, the Hoosiers were in contention to compete for the top spot, but Mother Nature took her course.\nOverton was four-under-par with five holes left after sinking a short birdie putt. Marek was also shooting well with an even-par outing until play was called. With these two, the rest of the men were shooting near the par mark.\nThe sixth place finish, of 18 teams, was the Hoosiers' second lowest finish of the entire season.
