Team wins 4 games over break

The No. 13 IU water polo team returned home from its seven game spring break road trip with a 4-3 record, improving its overall record to 16-8. \nIU lost to No. 7 Loyola Marymount 12-3 to close the road trip in Los Angeles on Thursday. \nThe loss ended what was an otherwise successful trip. The Lions jumped out to an 11-0 lead and IU was never able to catch up. The Hoosiers did not score until about six minutes were left in the game. \n"It's the end of a long week for us, but we flat out didn't play well today," coach Barry King said in a statement.\nBefore the trip-ending loss, IU defeated No. 19 Arizona State on Tuesday, 8-5. Senior Kristin Stanford had four goals to lead the Hoosiers. The Sun Devils outplayed IU early, leading 3-2 at the end of the first half. But the Hoosiers stormed back in the second half and outscored ASU 6-2 to win the game.\nThe Hoosiers traveled to San Diego on Monday to take on No. 6 San Diego State. IU kept the game close going into halftime, trailing 4-3. But, in the second half IU's offense sputtered and its defense struggled. The team lost 11-4. No Hoosier player had more than one goal on the day.\nIU played three games on Sunday and won all three. In the first game, the Hoosiers needed overtime to down Redlands, 5-4. Senior Jamie Marley scored the game winning goal in the extra period. \nIU then played a pair of games in the California State University-San Bernadino Coyote Classic. In the first game of the tournament the Hoosiers easily took care of Laverne, winning 13-0. Senior Sarah Butler led the way for IU with a career high five goals. \nIU then defeated host school CSUSB 9-5 in the second game of the tournament. Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Goldner was the star of the game as she stopped a career high 17 of 27 shots. She was just two saves off the school record of 19. \n"Jessica had a super game for us," King said in a statement. \nThe Hoosiers started off the trip with a 9-5 loss to No. 10 University of California San Diego on March 14.
