MIAMI -- Dozens of heavily armed police officers surrounded what appeared to be a hijacked mail truck after a 90-minute slow-speed chase through the city's streets Friday.\nTelevision station WFOR-TV reported that an armed man was holding a female mail carrier during the pursuit, but police refused to confirm the report. A television helicopter shot showed two guns in a mail bin on the passenger's seat.\nThe truck, traveling at about the speed limit, periodically stopped near bystanders along the road, and someone inside the truck apparently spoke to them before taking off again.\nPolice interviewed the bystanders and blocked traffic during the chase, but allowed the truck to continue while officers followed. Officers eventually stopped the truck by placing spikes in the road to blow out its tires.\nThe truck remained surrounded 30 minutes later. It wasn't clear how many people were inside.\nDuring the chase, 48 Miami-Dade County schools were locked down as a precaution in case the truck headed their way.
