The Mid-American Greek Council Association voted Interfraternity Council Member Sam Locke as president of the organization this weekend, where he'll provide guidance to other greek communities around the nation.\nWhile Locke will remain IFC's vice president of membership development here at IU, he will also oversee five separate areas covering a 16-state region in an attempt to stimulate growth and development of college greek councils, according to the organization's Web site. He will be working very closely with each area's vice president helping the members get the most out of their meetings. \nAlthough Locke is working with a large number of colleges at once, he seems confident that progress will be made by communication. \n"A lot of universities have the same problems," he said. "I hope to provide a forum for communication to take place."\nIFC President Evan Waldman said Locke is the right man for the job. \n"Sam is a hard worker, dedicated to his values and he always speaks with integrity," he said. "This just shows what kind of people we have on IFC."\nGoverning a group of nearly 3,000 greek leaders, Locke assumes the responsibility of serving as a liaison between student officers and the executive officers of the association. He also is responsible for submitting a monthly, mid-year and annual report, as well as articles for the MGCA newsletter.\nAlong with responsibilities throughout the year, Locke is also in charge of hosting an annual conference. Bringing together student officers from all of the five areas, the conference offers programs for educational development, greek leadership, and social interaction.\nAs a former chapter president of Alpha Sigma Phi, Locke has worked with a large body of students in the past. After being encouraged by greek adviser Stan Sweeney and Waldman, Locke submitted an application. Several months later, he was notified he was selected to serve as president.\nMeeting all of the standards of president, Locke now said he hopes to be the man to make a difference. \nAlthough he said he thinks his elected presidency says a lot about IU, he also thinks that the University can do more. \n"I think there's a lot I've learned through my involvement at IU," he said. "But I think IU has a lot to learn from other universities as well."\n"At least it's showing that we're doing good things"
