Disney favorite on IMAX

"Remember who you are …" boomed the voice of the gigantic ghost of Mufasa through the clouds of the sky when Disney's "The Lion King" hit the theaters once again. But, if you thought it was big the first time, then this is huge! The roaring of the lions was louder, the stomping of the herds felt like they were right behind you and the giggles and laughs of the children when a giant Timon and Pumba came on the screen were priceless.\nFor the past month and a half, Walt Disney's "The Lion King" came to select IMAX theaters around the country and was a big success. I went to the afternoon show, and after barely squeezing in -- I bought the last available ticket -- I thought to myself, "Why in the world is this show sold out, and what are all these children skipping school for?" Then I remembered that it was still winter break and that since it was a Friday afternoon, naturally, most children would hit the theaters. And what better way to spend a gray, Friday afternoon then to go exploring around a safari with a lion cub whose paw is larger than your head?\nBeing the huge Disney fan that I am, I was excited to see "The Lion King" on an IMAX screen. I hadn't seen it in such a long time, and I remembered my love for the movie when it first came out. Disney has gone way downhill in the movie making industry, but has been able to pull itself out of its slump with the blockbuster hit, "Lilo and Stitch." Bringing classics like "Beauty and the Beast," "The Lion King" and the upcoming "Aladdin" onto the IMAX screen, Disney is trying to pull itself out of its hole.\nFrom the moment the sun rose over the African prairie, I knew that this would not just be any ordinary viewing of "The Lion King." The sound and picture echoed throughout the theater. The elephant's feet were so big, I feared that it would jump out of the screen and stomp on one of the audience members! The picture was so blown up that you could see the outline, charcoal drawings of the individual lions and other characters within the movie. I do admit that during some of the more intense scenes and fighting sequences the large screen and movements made me feel slightly sick to my stomach. Yet, magnifying the fight scenes between Simba and Scar just made the movie more intense. At the end, when the rain fell from the sky it sounded like rocks were hitting the ground instead of tiny raindrops. In the last minute of the movie, the final drumbeats pounded with my heart for minutes after the credits rolled.\nWatching the movie on IMAX made it so much more enjoyable and memorable than the first times I watched it on a regular screen. Perhaps it was the child in me coming out again with my love for Disney, but watching a movie with so much action, movement and adventure multiplied by 100 was something that I am definitely glad I did not miss out on.
