Bombay House offers excellent Indian fare

It's a Friday night and dinner is coming around. The Wright Place does not seem suitable to your taste buds -- especially since it's the weekend, and you've been to ChiChi's so many times that your stomach can't take any more of that corn cake mix served with the "el grande burrito." \nSo where else is there to go? The Kirkwood area has a wide variety of different ethnic restaurants that I have enjoyed sampling my past three years at IU. From Thai to Indian to Greek, there are many delicious restaurants that definitely need to be visited. \nI usually go out to dinner on the weekends before heading out for a night on the town. My friends and I try to look for a new place to eat where we can all get in and no one is asked for two forms of identification just so they can have a hamburger. \nLast Friday, before going to see "The Nutcracker" and after thinking long and hard for a new restaurant to eat at, my friend and I finally decided on Bombay House. It is an Indian restaurant located on 4th Street down the block from Casablanca. \nUpon arriving, we were immediately seated and given our appetizer. It was somewhat similar to tortilla chips, served with a variety of different sauces (mild, medium and spicy -- the mild one being on the sweet side). Starving, we dove in. Surprising to our tongues though, these were no ordinary chips. They had an onion taste with a slight zing, making my eyes water. The chips were good, but I could not take more than a few bites of them soaked in the mild sauce to tone down the onion spice.\nWhen given the menu, my friend and I took about ten minutes to decide on what to order. Deciding between chicken and lamb, salmon, or just rice and vegetables was difficult because everything sounded so delicious. Everything was served with a side of rice and all the main entrees were made with a variety of Indian spices. \nAfter the surprise onion tortilla chip-like appetizer, I decided to be even more evil to my taste buds and order something spicy. At first I thought I was going to order chicken with nuts, yet I ended up changing my mind because I wanted more vegetables. I decided finally on chicken with spinach while my friend went for the chicken and nuts.\nOur entrées were served before we expected, and after trying some ourselves, we passed entrées so we could share. I filled my plate with rice, and then topped it with my entrée and then a little bit of the other one. I poured some of the medium sauce on top to moisten up the rice a little. The chicken had a ginger taste to it, which I found appealing. The spinach gave it an extra flavor. I thought that my entrée had more of a flavor to it because all I could really taste was a lot of ginger in my friend's entrée, and the nuts were bland. Maybe it was the different spices, or perhaps the sauce I used, but I went for a second helping of my entrée. \nToo full for dessert, we paid our waiter and left feeling satisfied. I would definitely go back to Bombay House and try another entrée. Perhaps the lamb or the salmon next time to spice things up a bit. Overall, it was a delicious restaurant at an affordable price.
