A semitrailer carrying explosives overturned Wednesday morning near IU, killing one person and causing authorities to evacuate nearby Greek houses.\nThe truck carrying ammonia nitrate, blasting caps and liquid oxygen overturned on the Indiana 45-46 bypass near the university's golf course northeast of the main campus, Indiana State Police said.\nNo fire was visible about two hours after the 6:30 a.m. crash and emergency crews were cleaning up a spill of unspecified material from the truck.\nNone of the explosive cargo spilled, said Indiana Department of Environmental Management spokeswoman Amy Hartsock. She said the agency did not intend to send a team to the scene.\n"They are taking precautions," she said. "At this point, we are just on alert."\nResidents of about 10 sororities and fraternities within a half-mile of the accident scene were evacuated to Assembly Hall, IU police said. The students were expected to be allowed to return to their homes before noon.\nOne person was killed in the crash, said Tammy Brock, a dispatcher at the Bloomington state police post.\nIt was not immediately clear whether the person killed was the truck driver.
