On the sidelines

Twins join Angels in championship series\nNot only are the Minnesota Twins here to stay, now they're going home -- to open a most unlikely AL championship series.\nBrad Radke pitched 6 2-3 dominant innings to beat Oakland again, and the Twins survived a late rally to top the Athletics 5-4 Sunday in the decisive Game 5 of their division series.\nThe Twins made their first playoff appearance in 11 years despite a tiny payroll and baseball's offseason plan to eliminate them. \nRolen may not play in NLCS\nCardinals third baseman Scott Rolen could not raise his arm at the shoulder and had limited movement of his forearm after sustaining multiple sprains that could keep him out of the National League championship series, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Sunday.\n"It still hurts pretty bad," Rolen said.\nRolen injured his left shoulder in Thursday night's playoff game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, including a severe hyperextension of the three ligaments supporting his clavicle, the newspaper reported, citing unidentified sources familiar with tests performed Friday.\nRolen, injured in a collision with Diamondbacks pinch runner Alex Cintron, underwent an MRI that lasted more than two hours. The exam revealed sprains in four regions of his shoulder and collarbone.\nRolen said surgery is not being considered.\n"To put it at seven days, 10 days or 14 days is a bit premature," Rolen said before Saturday night's Game 3 of the division series. "Right now, I'm just waiting for it stop hurting. I'm looking to make progress day by day. It's kind of hard to think about playing when it feels like this."\nRaiders beat Bills, remain unbeaten\nRookie Phillip Buchanon returned an interception by Drew Bledsoe 81 yards with just over eight minutes left Sunday as the Oakland Raiders defeated the Buffalo Bills 49-31 to remain the NFL's only unbeaten team.\nOakland improved to 4-0 for the sixth time in franchise history and first time since 1990, and the Raiders later became the only team with an unblemished record when the San Diego Chargers were routed in Denver, falling to 4-1.\nWith the Raiders clinging to a 35-31 lead, Buchanon stepped in front of Bledsoe's pass toward Peerless Price and ran it back untouched up the left sideline. \nBuchanon's interception came a week after the cornerback returned a punt 83 yards for a touchdown and had an interception to set up another TD in Oakland's 52-25 win over the Titans.
