Herzig duo provides mellow jazz

If there is a better way than this to spend a Saturday evening, don't bother trying to tell me what it is. I spent an amazing hour and a half sitting at a corner table in the Cafe Django, listening to the piano and vocal jazz stylings of Monica Herzig and Stephanie Knox. And I can personally say there wasn't a person in the room who wasn't impressed by this excellent performance.\nHerzig provided the base on which the music would build. Her subtle use of the piano, coupled with her obvious talent for jazz musical performance, gave her music the kind of sound that can get a crowd going. And boy did this crowd get into it. With people from as far as California and Kansas City here clapping, cheering and singing along, you would have been surprised that this duo was performing for a small audience. Every person got involved, and the music brought the room to life.\nStephanie Knox brought with her some of the best vocal stylings I have heard live. Her powerful voice glided over the piano melodies, bringing these classic tunes to life like few vocalists I've heard. What really kept me on the edge of my chair as I listened was her exquisite vibrato, the vocal control she used on every song. It was almost as though her voice was more than just a voice. It was a true instrument.\nPut it all together and I found myself hearing what at the very least can be called excellent lounge jazz, and it was at its best. It was a vocal performance rivaled by few. I didn't leave disappointed.\nCoupling the music with the excellent atmosphere of the Cafe Django, there was no way not to have the perfect evening. My only regret was coming here alone. Surrounded by romantic couples celebrating anniversaries, it was hard not to notice I was at the only table for one. But once that music started playing, there was no more thinking, just plenty of osmosis taking place as I let this music soak into my mind.\nThere is no denying the talent of Herzig and Knox. Their performance was ultimately captivating and overpowering, impressive to say the least. If you ever have the chance to catch this duo in a live performance, take the chance! You don't get many chances to hear music this good and well-executed.
