Campus Views: Myles Brand

"I didn't know he left so quick, eight years, and then all of a sudden he decides to up and drop it. So I hope he does a good job, and I wish him well."

Andre Key
Junior

"He's totally against athletics, and he's going into something soley based upon athletics and that's ridiculous."

Erin Gorlesky
Junior

"I didn't feel that he was a good president of IU to begin with. I'm concerned for the NCAA now. The president's job is to do things to keep the faculty happy and to generate money for the school. Since he's been here, we've had a lot of faculty members leave, and IU's struggling for funds. If that's the man's job, he didn't do a very good job.

Brian Haney
Senior

"He's always been talking about his loyalty to IU. He's always been trying to be like, 'I'm for the kids, I'm for the students, I'm all about diversity,' and I didn't buy it. So I'll see you later and I hope we get a black president for Indiana University."

Jada Barbry
Senior

"I think, actually, that it's a good idea that he's going towards academics and not so much athletics. But maybe he's gone too far. I don't think the NCAA would want to appoint him unless they want to go in a different direction."

Clint Taylor
Graduate student

"I'm pretty indifferent. He had a good reason to go, because, what's better than the NCAA?"

Lindsy Serrano
Sophomore

"A lot of people say he hasn't been liked here because of the Bobby Knight situation, it seems like he's got a vendetta against frats and sororities. I think it's good for him. I think the unfortunate thing is, the NCAA is kind of this old boys' club so conservative, and so in the past, and I think he fits right in. I think the way he dealt with Bob Knight, I think that's the kind of person they want."

Andy Luther
Senior

"He never seemed that supportive of athletics, so I hope they'll hire maybe someone else a little more supportive."

Erin Smith
Sophomore

"I really didn't think he was that great when he was here."

Chris Overstreet
Graduate student

"Based only on what I've heard, it might be good."

Crystal Brown
Sophomore

"I don't think he was good for IU at all, he tried to run this place like he did the junior school in Oregon where he came from."

John Sexton
IU Employee

"He's too academic. He's trying to turn us into an Ivy League school, so if the NCAA appoints him, there will be more stringent academic constraints on athletes."

Nate Trump
Graduate student
