Woman assaulted near library

The IU Police Department is investigating a forcible fondling case that occurred 6:30 p.m. Tuesday near the South side of the Lilly Library.\nAn 18-year-old female student reported the attempted attack at 12:03 a.m. Thursday.\nSgt. Tim Lewis of IUPD said the department has stepped up patrols in the area of the Lilly Library.\nLewis said the suspect grabbed the woman and then ran from the scene on foot in an unknown direction.\nThe suspect is described as a male, 5-foot-10 with an average build. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. The suspect has a deep voice and might be in his 30s.\n"We hope that anyone that might have been in the area might call us and give us clarity on the suspect," he said.\nThe woman did not see the suspect very well, so she is not sure what race he is or his hair length or color, Lewis said.\n"She indicated she didn't see his face," he said.\nLewis said there is no evidence that this incident is related to the attempted assault on a female in Wright Quad Thursday, Sept. 12.\nLewis said students should try to always be aware of their surroundings and avoid dark, unlit areas on campus.\nIf you have information on this case, contact the investigation section of the IUPD at 855-4111.
