Team takes second place

Two weeks ago the Hoosiers got off to a big lead in the Wolverine Invitational and were able to hold on to that lead and win the tourney. Unfortunately, this weekend IU stormed out to a large lead and was unable to hold off the competition. The team finished in a second place tie at the Lady Northern Intercollegiate in Iowa City, Iowa.\nCoach Sam Carmichael said the team's poor play in the final round cost them the title.\n"We played as bad today as we did good yesterday," he said. "We started out poor, I think we only had one player break 40 on the front nine. We played well on the back, but just dug ourselves too deep on the front and weren't able to overcome that. Kent State played very well today to win."\nGoing in to the final round of the tournament, IU held a seven stroke lead, but Kent State shot a final round 299 to IU's final round 309, and overtook the Hoosiers for the title. \nJunior Karen Dennison, the No. 1 ranked golfer, according to Golf Week/Sagarin ratings, started the final round with a one stroke lead, but shot a 78 and placed second. Dennison finished one-under par, 218, for the tournament, a career best, eclipsing the mark she set two weeks ago at the Wolverine Invitational, where she won the individual title.\nJunior Danah Ford shot a career best 224, and finished in a tie for sixth place following her final round 77. Along with Dennison and Ford, two other Hoosiers finished in the top 15. Senior Cara Stuckey finished in a tie for 12th and junior Ambry Bishop tied for 15th.\nFreshman Molly Redfearn rounded out the Hoosier squad and ended the tournament tied for 39th place following her final round 80.\nKent State, who won the Mary Fossum Invitational two weeks ago, was able to withstand Penn State's late charge. Katie Flutcher, the individual title-winner led Penn State's late charge, as they tied IU and Kent State won their second championship in as many tournaments. \nThe Hoosiers will take to the course next on Oct. 7 and 8, when they head to Franklin, Indiana to host the Shootout at the Legends.
