Women's soccer defeats Southeast\nMissouri State\nThe women's soccer team traveled to Southeast Missouri State this weekend and defeated the Otahkians 2-0 Sunday night. Juniors Shaunna Daugherty and Kristin Pimlott teamed up to control IU's defense, while junior Erin Hesslebach was the only Hoosier to score a goal. The second goal of the evening was a SEMO own-goal. \nThe Hoosiers gained control of the game early, scoring in the eighth minute of play when senior co-captain Kara Bryan took the corner kick for IU and junior Erin Hesselbach was able to convert on the header. \n\"Hesselbach not only scored the game-winning goal tonight, but she was highly instrumental in getting the shutout defensively. Kara Bryan found her touch tonight in linking with the front players and was very effective,\" coach Mick Lyon said in a press release. \nBryan led the Hoosiers with five shots, three of them on goal while junior Carly Everett was able to take two scoring chances of her own. \nThe second Hoosier goal came thanks to the Otahkians who headed the ball past the goalkeeper after an IU corner kick in front of SEMO's goal. Senior Jenny Mann, who took the corner kick, was able to record the assist. \nLook for full coverage of this game in tomorrow's IDS.\nIU softball begins season against Ball State\nIU opened its fall softball season with a doubleheader against Ball State Friday. The teams didn't finish the game due to darkness. \n\"We\'ve only been practicing a week, and the kids are so eager to learn and get better,\" first year coach Sara Hayes said. \"They have so much energy right now. I was so impressed with the effort. They\'ve been so positive, which is the key to getting over the hump.\" \nSophomore Heather Stillians turned in a tremendous pitching effort in the opener, tossing 6.2 innings of one-hit, one-run softball, striking out eight while walking two.
