IU players earn Big Ten honors

Dielman, Swann honored by conference for defensive efforts

The move from tight end to defensive tackle has already paid dividends for senior Kris Dielman and the Hoosier defense. Dielman was instrumental in IU's 25-17 win over William and Mary.\nFor his efforts in that game, Dielman was named Defensive Player of the Week by the Big Ten conference.\nAfter making Honorable Mention All-Big Ten honors last season, Dielman was asked to make the switch to the defensive line during spring practices.\nDielman had a career high five tackles for losses, which tied the school record. He also had one sack and racked up seven total tackles. Thanks to Dielman's play on the line, the Hoosier defense held William and Mary to negative 32 yards rushing, setting the school record.\nDielman also recovered a fumble which led to the go ahead touchdown by freshman John Pannozzo. Dielman helped lead the defense that had to shut down two William and Mary drives in the final 4 minutes to preserve the win for the Hoosiers.\nDielman and the Hoosiers will be in action again when the take on Utah this Saturday in Salt Lake City.\nIn other IU sports, senior John Swann of the men's soccer team was named Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Swann shared the award with goalkeeper Eric Hanson of Wisconsin.\nSwann led the No. 1 Hoosier defense that gave up only one goal in two matches against two Top-10 teams in the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic. Swann played all 220 minutes of the two overtime matches.\nSwann was honored for his efforts in the two matches by being named Defensive MVP of the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic. Swann and the soccer team do battle against William and Mary Friday and No. 3 St John's Saturday in the St. John's Classic in Jamaica, NY.
