Weather allows 2 of 3; 2 losses

The IU men's tennis team (6-6, 0-1 Big Ten) was slated to play three matches over spring break, all against solid opponents. The Hoosiers ended up playing only two contests and lost both. Their match against South Alabama (8-6) March 12 was scheduled to be played outside, but weather caused cancellation. The match will not be made up.\nPrior to the cancelled match, IU lost to Clemson 5-2 March 10 at South Alabama. Freshman Jakub Praibis won in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 extending his winning streak to eight games. Senior Milan Rakvica was victorious 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 1 singles position over the Tigers' Jamin Thompson.\nWith the victory, Rakvica tied for sixth place on IU's all-time career wins list with 86. IU dropped the doubles point against Clemson (8-5). The Hoosiers' only doubles victory against the Tigers was by senior Ari Widlansky and freshman Ryan Recht. They won by the slim margin of 9-8. \nIU looked to get back on track against Kentucky, but the Hoosiers were defeated 6-1 in Lexington March 14. The Hoosiers lone point was by Praibis. He was triumphant 6-2, 6-3 over the Wildcats' Karim Benmansour. Praibis has won his last nine singles matches and improved to 11-1. He joined the team at the beginning of the spring semester. \nJunior Zach Held defaulted his match against Kentucky in the third set after winning the first set 7-5. Held dropped to 3-6 in spring singles and 9-12 overall. Also, Recht lost in three sets 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 at the No. 5 singles position. Rakvica lost as well, 6-3, 6-2, to highly ranked Jesse Witten. Senior Rahman Smiley sat out the two matches with a chronic back injury.\nThe Hoosiers return home to tangle with Notre Dame March 23 at noon at the Indiana Tennis Center. IU returns to conference action home against Iowa March 24.
