Trustees raise tuition 9 percent

The IU Board of Trustees approved a 9 percent tuition hike coupled with an additional $100 per-semester technology fee for the Bloomington campus Friday.\nNext year, tuition and technology fees will add an additional $577.60 to in-state students' bills and $1,453.70 for out-of-state students.\nRoom rates will go up 4 percent, and meal plan prices will remain the same.\nThe cuts come in the wake of a projected $100 million shortfall of state funding for the next two years.\nAt the Richmond, Ind. meeting trustees pproved a university budget crafted by IU administrators. \nLast year IU raised tuition by 7.5 percent. In November Purdue increased its tuition 24 percent. For the 2002-2003 school year the University of Iowa raised its tuition 18.5 percent and the University of Illinois boosted tuition fees 10 percent.\nSee Monday's IDS for a full story.
