The difference of 1 year

Almost a year ago to the date, some students on the Bloomington campus were caught up in violent protests and destruction because Bob Knight had been fired. At the time, I thought how lucky my son was that our country was at peace with the world and that he did not have to protest against a war or other horrible acts -- only against a fired basketball coach. In light of the senseless tragedy Sept. 11, 2001, that peaceful world no longer exists, and the events surrounding last year's dismissal of Coach Knight seem so trivial now. Unfortunately, my son and countless other IU students learned yesterday that the world is a cruel place and that no one is safe from terrorists.\nIslam teaches people to hijack commercial planes and blow up two 110-story buildings to kiss the scent of the heavens.
